ABOUT US
Biomedical Enterprises Inc. (BME) was founded in 1998 by a physician with 30 years of experience in the field of dialysis, to research, develop and commercialize medical devices for the dialysis industry. After several years of research funded by a $1 million grant from the National Institute of Health, Biomedical Enterprises is bringing to the market its first product, a breakthrough invention, a venous dialysis needle (the BME needle). Our innovative dialysis needle provides a solution to the number one problem plaguing dialysis clinics, patients and insurers - clotting and occlusion of the vascular access. These complications cause infections, hospitalizations, surgery and occasionally, death. Treating these complications costs an estimated $4 billion per year in the United States. In addition, the new needle decreases the damage to circulating blood cells and the release of pro-inflammatory factors, and is more efficient in the removal of toxins from the blood. The BME needle fulfills a much needed requirement of patients receiving chronic hemodialysis. At present about 1.5 million patients receive dialysis worldwide and use 200 million hemodialysis needles per year. The number of dialysis patients is growing 7% per year because of the aging population, increased incidences of kidney diseases, hypertension and diabetes and the increased availability of dialysis throughout the world.
